EXPERIENCE

THE BIVINGS GROUP

WASHINGTON, DC
www.bivings.com
Production Director
7/2006 - 8/2007
Production Manager
7/2002 - -7/2006
Production Associate
4/2001 - 6/2002

  • I was the lead production staff for the company, responsible for coding the most challenging projects using HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript. Participated in all new project development meetings and was the client contact for several projects. With other production staff, maintained the company’s many existing client sites and created templates for and maintained Typo 3 content management systems, Wordpress blogs and Drupal sites.
  • Converted the company’s flagship product (Marketing site: www.impactwatch.com) from table-heavy markup to well structured XHTML/CSS layout with very few images without sacrificing any of the outward appearance or altering the user experience. The change allowed for using the same code base for the product’s many clients (including AMD, Chlorine Chemistry Council, Hewlett-Packard, Humana, Siemens and others) resulting in greatly reduced launch times for new clients while decreasing the bandwidth required to view the site. Also enhanced user experience with DOM Scripting and Ajax.
  • Modernized the company’s website production standards by introducing previously unused technologies to the production team, thereby allowing the company to offer more capabilities and produce a better product. Kept informed about and utilized the capabilities of the latest browsers while ensuring that sites would degrade gracefully in older browsers. Kept informed about the bugs in browsers and how to work around them so the user has a seamless experience.
  • Created more marketable products and reduced time spent supporting end-users by focusing on interface design and usability while working closely with designers and client services on new product development.
  • Managed HTML email production workflow, successfully introducing a new capability to the production team.
  • Streamlined production workflow by improving communication between the production team and other departments.
  • Worked on projects for a wide variety of clients from many different industries, many of whom are listed here: www.bivings.com/client/index.html.

RCS APPS

12/1999 - Present

  • Contracted to develop dynamic websites and maintain servers for company clients.
  • Manage the server and website for the American College of Gastroenterology (www.acg.gi.org). Transferred many member communication functions to website. Among many projects for the site I created an online store for the association’s publications (www.acg.gi.org/physicians/store.asp), an online Self Assessment Test for the members (www.acg.gi.org/satest/), a system for member registration for the organization’s meetings (www.acg.gi.org/physicians/meetings/registration.asp) and a greatly improved members section on the website where members can pay their dues, find fellow members and get the latest information from the organization. Played a part in the design for and coded three re-launches.
  • Am developing a site to replace www.acguniverse.org which will be a central location for all of the College’s continuing medical education offerings.
